Well, Mr Zuckerberg has caused another stir by enhancing the social aspects of his social network. Many appear up in arms because the free social networking site they have chosen to join and share parts of their life on is making changes which make sharing easier. I fail to see what all the fuss is about. My take on privacy and social networking (as posted on a friends wall earlier today) is as follows:

If I don't want the world to know/see something that I am up to or who I'm with, I don't put it on FB. I don't publish my credit card details, the state of my finances, my address, when I go to the toilet and many other 'private' issues in my life. There are large parts of my life, however that I want to share. Special moments, people I love, things I am thinking and doing, issues I am wresting with. I want these out in the open and FB is the best way I know of managing to get these things out there and interact with others who I'm am often not physically close to.

I am hoping that as people get used to their new FB world they will see that it's not a threat to privacy so long as it's managed sensibly. Yes, change can sometimes be painful but it doesn't have to be terminal. Stick with it, push through the pain!!
